Back to the Futurism – Changing Rooms (Barnstaple)

This room was in need of changing and we were so up for the challenge. As is so often the case with a middle room in a house that may have been a dining room in days gone by, this space had fallen out of favour and was rarely used. So we brought it into the future with an uber glam makeover, giving the homeowners a cocktail bar come members club at home. Rich tones and fashion forward inspo came together for a statement space fit for any party.

The space had potential but lacked character or clear function, so we gave it a strong new layout and identity.

The boys clearly had an eye for retro pieces but it was a cold looking room with no atmosphere. Nothing could be as bad as our hotel room that week though. So glam.

Time to get messy and get stuck in with some serious colour...and some less serious painting outfits

We had some very lovely help from this gorgeous pair.

Here comes the disco sausage of dreams, making a sculptural feature of the clean lined bar stool using blue metallic stretch fabric ....you will have to watch the show for the process, it was a lot of fun to make.

We started with a very clean lined bar stool, sprayed it blue and re-upholstered the seat in glossy blue!

Then for the sausage part, made from a tube of metallic blue stretch fabric.

The vintage light needed the perfect backdrop to reflect off...so in came the most bouji moire wallcovering in gold to warm it all up and add richness.

The wallpaper for the ceiling was a big hit to the budget and a big headache to the decorators, but what a wow impact!

Finishing touches were this perspex box artwork using gold foil and a futuristic new lamp that is rechargable, wireless and the perfect blue for the centre of the cocktail table.

Party time!

The final design is deceptively simple, with its pared back palette and spacious look, but then simplicity always is the hardest thing to achieve.

From the wallpapered ceiling with lighting feature to the panelling and handmade artworks. The upholstery to the re-imagined kitchen cabinets, it was labour intensive, but so worth it.

We loved picking out our favourites from the many artworks we made for the pop art wall and the cocktails were flowing by the end. The only question is, what track to play on the beautiful old record player! We vote for some Kylie or Annie Lennox.
